NEW SHARON — Just before 8 a.m. on Friday, a school bus backed over a car behind it after the bus driver saw children arriving late at the stop.

According to a press release from Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols, the accident occurred on Industry Road.

The school bus driver, Bonita Oliver, 61, of Chesterville, had slowed down at a bus stop near the intersection with Bassett Road, but did not see any students and continued on her way.

As Oliver was driving away, the release states, she saw children walking toward the bus stop, so she stopped and put the bus into reverse. She did not see the black 1992 Mazda Miata behind her, which was being driven by Janet Kennedy, 69, of Industry. Oliver backed over the top of the Mazda.

Northstar Rescue responded to the scene, but no injuries were reported.

There were five children already on the bus at the time.
