BEDFORD, N.H. — A New Hampshire high school is allowing teachers to waive midterm exams for students who are doing well.

WMUR-TV reports the school district says its “competency recovery days” allow students who have reached a certain level at Bedford High School to take time off. Bedford Area School District Superintendent Chip McGee says if a student is passing their class, that teacher can waive the midterm. The high school will adjust its normal schedule next week so classes will be held only for students who need extra help.

“The work that’s going to be happening with teachers and students academically, that’s going to be for students who have not yet mastered those key skills, and that’s really what competency recovery is all about,” McGee said.

Students excused from class can still come into school next week to work on projects or community service.
